Note: .280 Ross rifles had a design flaw. If they weren't assembled
correctly, they would explode, killing the rifleman. Therefore,
we elect not to sell replacement cartridges in this caliber (.287)
and suggest that all weapons of this design type be disabled in the
interest of humanity.
*** 303 Savage information: Way back when, Savage made some early model
303 rifles in .311 caliber like the .303 British or the .765 Belgian
Mauser. Well, they quickly saw the silliness of that, and promptly
switched over to .308 like everybody else. Since there are few of
those early guns, we mostly load the 303 Savage with a .308 pill.
However, if you should have an early model and are sure that your
bore is .311, then we'll be glad to load your 303 accordingly. Naturally,
shooting a .311 pill though a .308 bore could be a fairly exciting
experience and could very well scatter you and your rifle all over
paradise, so be sure you know beyond a shadow of a doubt
(slug the bore) before special ordering your ammo in .311. Shooting
.308 ejecta through a .311 bore, however, won't hurt a thing but
accuracy. The chances are 99% that you have a .308 bore so don't
spend too much time worrying about it. If when shooting .308 bullets,
you can hold a 2 inch or less group at a hundred yards with your old rifle,
then it's has a .308 bore. If it shoots wild, then you probably have a .311
bore.
It's that easy. In any case, before ordering .311 bullets, slug the bore,
as the possibility exists that you could be a less than proficient marksman
or be experiencing some other problem!!!
Aside:
The .300 savage is a whole different animal, and no, you can't make
them out of .30-30 brass as the .300 Savage is .020 fatter in the body
of the case and has a shorter shoulder. We make these using new
brass. We also do 250 Savage or 250/3000 Savage. We aim to please.
